About Website Checker

Website Checker (iswebsiteexists.com) is a small, independent project built to answer a simple question: "Is this site actually down, or is it just me?" The goal is to give you a clear, trustworthy answer without forcing you to sign up, install software, or scroll through ads wrapped around copied content.

Who it's for

  • Site owners who want a quick external check after a deploy, DNS change, or hosting migration.
  • Developers debugging connectivity, SSL, redirect chains, or "works on my machine" issues.
  • Support teams who need a neutral result to share with customers ("here’s what our checker sees from the outside").
  • Anyone curious whether a site is really down worldwide or only from their connection.

Why we built it

Many "is it down" tools either feel abandoned, hide the useful details behind paywalls, or collect far more data than they need. We wanted something focused and honest: a small set of focused tools (a website status checker and an IP/connection details page) with enough technical detail (DNS, status codes, SSL, timing, and IP information) to be useful to people who actually run websites.

The site is intentionally lightweight: no dashboards, no user accounts, and no uptime subscription upsell. You enter a URL, we run a controlled set of checks from our server, and we show you the result in language that's understandable to both developers and less technical users.

How we think about privacy

We process the URL you submit in memory to run the check and return your result. We do not maintain a dedicated database of the domains or URLs you test. Like most sites, our hosting provider may keep short‑lived server logs for security and debugging. We also avoid building user profiles or selling data. For details, see the Privacy Policy.

Roadmap and feedback

The site already includes an IP / connection details page alongside the checker. We may add more focused tools and deeper guides for common DNS and SSL errors. If you rely on the checker and have ideas that would genuinely help you or your team, we’d love to hear from you.

You can reach us via the Contact page. Short, concrete suggestions (“it would help if the result also showed X”) are especially welcome.

Editorial accountability

Core guides are written and maintained by the Website Checker editorial team. We focus on practical troubleshooting content informed by real checker behavior and common hosting/network incidents. See our Methodology for how checks are performed and our Editorial Policy for update and correction standards.
